3 Reasons to Consider California for Surgical Technology

surgical-technology-california

Some people spend their lives dreaming about having a certain job or living in a particular place. In some cases, it’s possible to turn those dreams into reality. For example, some people dream of working as surgical technologists and living in California. That’s one dream that definitely has the potential to come true.

Education and Job Prospects

Surgical technologists typically need a postsecondary certificate or associate degree. Accredited surgical technology programs are usually one to two years and are offered at community colleges, technical schools, colleges, universities, and through the military. This field is open to anyone who completes the required program; it can be a great career choice for a person just finishing high school or a mid-career individual looking for something different.

Many people worry about finding a job when the degree is done, but the prospects are good for surgical technologists. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts 14,700 new jobs and employment growth of nearly 15 percent between 2014 and 2024. Surgical technologists who have completed an accredited program will have the best job prospects. It’s important to be aware of continuing education requirements and additional educational opportunities throughout one’s career.

Dreaming of California

There are many factors that draw people to California. It may be tough to define; it may be an ideal of freedom, a laid-back lifestyle, or something else. The draw has been there for a long time: people fled to California for the Gold Rush, then during the Great Depression, and then during the Dust Bowl….

For many people, the weather is a big draw. Another draw: all the ways to enjoy that weather. California has a little bit of everything: deserts, beaches, mountains – you name it, California’s got it. Although surfing, swimming, hiking, and beach volleyball are available, recreational opportunities aren’t limited to these stereotypical pursuits. Walking, running, biking are encouraged: Bike lanes are enormously wide, and there are several special bike paths and pedestrian bridges.
