National Surgical Tech Week Is Coming: Awesome Ways to Recognize Your Deserving Team!

It’s nice to be recognized and appreciated, isn’t it? National Surgical Tech week is coming up, and that’s a wonderful opportunity to recognize surgical techs and show them how much they’re appreciated. Here are some ideas to help celebrate them and how much they mean to your organization.

Plan an Event

A party can be an excellent way to celebrate. As the guests of honor, your surgical techs will feel special and acknowledged. You could have a cake with a surgical mask design on it, or use a real mask on the cake, and have “Thank you, surgical techs!” written on the cake. Balloons would also add to the festive atmosphere.

Depending on the organization, an open house may be another great option. It could take place at a time that would allow people from any shift to stop by, maybe inviting friends and family and the community to learn more about the field. Some surgical tech training programs have open houses, where they invite friends, family, and alumni. It can be a great way to promote the profession and celebrate surgical technologists.

Get Them a Gift

During surgical tech week, one of the goals is to make surgical techs feel special. A gift can help with that; a meaningful gift can let your surgical technologists know how much you appreciate them.

What’s the perfect gift for a surgical technologist? It can be difficult to decide, but a gift that recognizes the tech’s profession can be ideal, especially if it’s personalized, such as with the name of the facility or the number of years served.

Educate Other Staff and Patients about Their Vital Role

What does a surgical tech do? Many people don’t know much about this position, but the surgical tech’s role is critical: without surgical techs, a patient would be more likely to enter surgery in a non-sterile environment or worry about her surgeon’s ability to have all of the necessary supplies ready.

Specifically, surgical techs work under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Clearly, it’s an important role, and Surgical Tech Week is a wonderful opportunity to spread the word about it.

Keep the appreciation Going

Surgical techs are important every day, not just during Surgical Tech Week. In this role, these individuals are involved in changing people’s lives every day. Don’t limit recognizing them to one week per year; let them know that you appreciate them every day.
